Shake, rattle & roll

We are still here and unbelievably we have had no damage.
Ok, we have cracks in the wall but that’s normal living in seismic zone and other than frayed nerves & a terrified cat we are fine.
There have been thousands of aftershocks many above 4.5 but you get used to them and most of the smaller ones we don’t even notice.
It’s the people of Marlborough & south into Kaikoura that are having a dreadful time of it.
The grumpy tourist who complained that it took a day & a half to be evacuated from Kaikoura clearly had no respect for the fact that people have lost lives and livelihoods in this massive quake.
I heard a comment by Paralympian, Liam Malone, who said that Kiwis experiencing an earthquake while travelling overseas would simply roll up their sleeves and pitch in.  Damn right.

Useless piece of info: Wellingtonians are generally pretty blasé and do not dive for cover in an earthquake.  We wait… we assess… and we think “ok if it doesn’t stop in the next…“  then I’ll move. Invariably the shaking stops and we haven’t moved.  In the last 30+ years I have assumed the safety position twice and that includes last Sunday.

    Yes, this is me.
Most  photogs prefer to be behind the camera and I'm no exception.
So this pic is rather old having been taken at a Ceroc ball in 2012.
